JCMS 7: the next-generation enterprise portal
|
|
This major release of JCMS is an even more complete solution whose modularity enables users to progressively implement functionalities as their needs evolve. The JCMS 7 application platform easily meets the most exacting performance, security and reliability requirements of organizations of any size.
"Web innovation continues at a breathtaking pace, notably with the recent appearance of enterprise social networks. Jalios aims to bring its customers the benefits of the latest innovations by fully integrating them with existing JCMS Intra/Extra/Internet tools. What distinguishes JCMS from its rivals is that we have coherently integrated these bricks natively into a proven product. JCMS 7 heralds a new generation of enterprise portals by combining in a single product enterprise social networks, collaborative workspaces, personalized portals, and documentary and content management. Our customers enjoy the power of these compelling functions while remaining focused on their business. JCMS adapts to them, not the inverse."

Since its initial version, JCMS has provided powerful documentary management tools. Version 7 brings numerous important technical and functional enhancements. By handling metadata in a completely new way, it is able to manage several million online documents.
A new interface allows multiple file uploads by simple drag/drop.
File and document indexing (WebDAV or MS Office editing, offline document capture) has been enriched.
A viewer has been added to allow documents to be viewed without having to download them or open the application used to create them.
JCMS 7 retains all the existing JCMS native media library and multimedia content management features, and it is now positioned as a sophisticated high-volume documentary management solution.

High-volume documentary management
A new module providing two types of interchange spaces – suggestion box and collaborative FAQs – introduces a conversational dimension.
These spaces facilitate contacts and interactivity between people interested in specific subjects. Users can collaborate to elect the best contributions and thereby increase information value. A "Dashboard" function stimulates individual initiatives by spotlighting the best contributors, experts and animators.
A Conversational Spaces portlet can be placed in a portal, in a collaborative space or on a user's personal desktop.
These spaces are even accessible for consultation, contribution and voting using a smartphone.

Conversational spaces
Jalios has completely redesigned the ergonomics of collaborative spaces. JCMS 7 boosts collaborative productivity by making all tools easier to use and more intuitive. Workspaces are created and administered entirely from the front office. A new wizard is provided to open and manage a collaborative space in just a few clicks.
Even users with no technical skills or product training will find it easy to configure these spaces, choose a presentation template, select the services to be proposed, and select or invite members.
Jalios ne s'est pas contentée de refondre ses environnements collaboratifs, mais les a enrichis de nombreuses fonctionnalités :
- Project management module (Gantt chart),
- Event planning (including collaborative choice of dates),
- Improved calendar functions,
- Publication follow-up,
- New Atom/RSS feed engine,
- New Wiki version.

Revamped collaborative environment
Professionals are increasingly using smartphones to consult sites. Jalios JCMS 7 provides a module that gives iPhone and Android users’ access to all the services of an intranet. This web app is very easy to install on the user's phone. "This web app requires no special installation on the user's phone"
It first authenticates the user then displays a home page listing all the available services (directory, calendar, tasks, social network, etc.), according to his rights.
A search function is provided, and content is adapted to the screen size.

Integration with office tools
Jalios JCMS 7 was released on January 31, 2011. It has been presented to specialized consultants for evaluation:
Jalios JCMS probably has the broadest functional cover of any available product in its category. Its numerous modules satisfy the needs of a wide variety of usages, from intranet to enterprise social networking to project management. I consider JCMS to be an advanced tool for content management in the broad sense. Its usability and functional maturity make it a pertinent choice for the types of application that have made its reputation. Jalios has now expanded its function scope by providing exhaustive cover of collaborative working and enterprise social networking."
