Education Offices in Aix-Marseille, Paris, Versailles
Académies de Aix-Marseille, Paris, Versailles

French School Districts (or Académies) are making an effort to rationalize and evolve "Digital Work Spaces" and school district Intranet portals which are used by establishments and teachers, students and parents for information exchange and as a vector for pedagogic support.

The Paris School District covers about 400 public and private establishments, the one in Aix-Marseille 500, and the one in Versailles over 800.

Objectives

These Education Office projects have numerous goals:

  • - Enhance productivity by modernizing working methods and encouraging internal and inter-service communication
  • - Make the intranet a powerful internal communication tool
  • - Reorganize the School Districts' presence on the Web while conserving the current principle of decentralized operation, giving the target end-users a global and coherent view of the institution, and simplifying access to information
  • - Simplify and organize the implementation of spaces and sites specific to particular functions, user profiles or establishments, while ensuring global consistency and federating all users

The need

Give School District staff and other users, in a profile-based manner and on their desktops, all the available information from various organizations (Education Office sites, individual school sites, ministries, etc.) and all the tools needed to fulfill their missions.

For external users (parents, students of all levels, partners, press, etc.), these projects aim to enhance the School District's image, to simplify and centralize access to information, and to handle recurrent, routine requests in order to reduce the number of direct, time-consuming contacts (visits, telephone calls).

For internal users (teachers, managers, administration, etc.), the idea is to provide platforms for dialog and collaboration, better access to editorial resources (simplified access paths, global search engine), easier access to application services (personalization + single sign-on).

The solution

The Education Offices was able to rationalize many technical activities thanks to the wide functional coverage of the integrated JCMS solution:
  • - portal
  • - content management
  • - multi-criteria searching
  • - publishing workflows
  • - groupworking
  • - "website factory" tools

This solution, open and compliant with industry standards, gives the IT teams total control. It was implemented by Education Office staff with expert support provided by Jalios and, in some cases, other external assistance (e.g. Micropole-Univers for the Paris School District).
