Commission Européenne : DG de l'Interprétation
La DG de l'Interprétation

The Directorate-General for Interpretation based in Brussels provides interpreters working mainly for European institutions. The organization has 500 interpreters and 200 administration staff, and it uses the services of 2,700 freelancers working without physical offices. All these people consult a particularly rich database containing many confidential documents.

The need

The Directorate needed to provide its interpreters with a virtual office in the form of an intranet/extranet, an indispensable tool for efficient management of their activity, keeping them well informed and documented in their daily interventions at meetings in Brussels and abroad.

The project manager, Mr. Andersen, explains: "Our staff expressed the need for a practical and efficient solution. This virtual office is becoming indispensable in our daily work."

The solution

The Directorate has used JCMS to create a virtual office optimized for each user.

The system has led to better management of existing content. Its control system, workflows and full-text search engine are particularly appreciated by users. The solution provides secure personalized management of information retrieval.

Mr. Andersen observes: "The full-text search engine is really intelligent and efficient. We are genuinely impressed by the pertinence of the results!"

Among upcoming evolutions, the Directorate hopes to decentralize its publication activities, employing a workflow system used by about forty people authorized to edit and validate content.
