France's Civil Aviation Authority (Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile – DGAC) plays a central role in air transport worldwide. Placed under the authority of the Ministry of Transport, the DGAC is in particular responsible for the safety and security of French air traffic and aerodromes. It employs 11,700 staff of which about 950 are based in French overseas territories. |
The need
With installations throughout French territory, the DGAC lacked an intranet accessible by all its sites, notably those in overseas Departments and Territories. The DGAC decided to install an intranet and a flexible and efficient content management system.
Mr. Amchin, in charge of the project in the Communication Department, explains "Our objective was to give our staff access to a rich documentary base and to exchange documents between different services no matter where they are located. It was also important to give everyone powerful functions to search in all our documentary bases."
The solution
The DGAC chose JCMS, a powerful content management and groupworking tool, and created an intranet.
The new portal enables staff to access documents, online news, regulatory texts and a roundup of the daily press. They also enjoy the benefits of a private, secure collaborative space.
JCMS has rapidly proved to be indispensable within the DGAC and has already been used to put more than 5,000 documents online. It has made interchanges between DGAC sites very much more efficient, despite the fact that the JCMS replication functionalities are not being used, which means that overseas agencies are obliged to download documents managed centrally, a slow process in some remote locations.
