INRIA, The French National Institute for Research in Computer science and Control, selects JCMS in order to build its scientific vulgarization site and to support collaborative edition amongst a large number of scientific editors and contributors : INRIA, CNRS, Universities. |
The need
One of the INRIA's many goals is to develop access to and distribution of scientific and technical information. Its "Interstices" site meets a real need for popularization of scientific information by adopting a transversal approach involving a broad panel of scientific contributors. Its mission is to make known the whole spectrum of research on information and communication technologies and science, and to explain researchers' scientific activities and production.
The solution
Although the INRIA has traditionally opted for free ICT solutions and ones developed in-house, it chose JCMS for its collaborative content publishing functionalities. Before being posted on the Internet, INRIA articles are written in a collaborative, interactive manner then validated by the members of the Interstices editorial committee without having to convene a physical meeting. Other factors also convinced the INRIA that JCMS was the right choice: the application is ready-to-use, able to align with the existing Interstices graphic style, and to comply with W3C standards.
For Interstices, the INRIA took an iterative approach starting by building a mock-up. JCMS was then appropriated by the Scientific Multimedia Communication team.
